What Lies Ahead

Before the virus, whenever I thought of my future, it would always come in some sort of achievement: graduating from college, getting my dream job, finding my soulmate, having kids, etc. I was not expecting the lockdown, I assume nor did any of the hundreds of thousands of people whose lives were claimed by the virus. Whenever I think of the future, it has always been towards a path of positivity. I find that it helps keep me hopeful for what is about to come, and that immediately puts a smile on my face. It becomes a helpful tool in fighting off overwhelming thoughts that we get from situations like the lockdown. Although it has never become more of a blur than it has today.

As cases once again arise, our actions of help are also cut down as we are encouraged to stay at home in order to help reduce the amount of people getting infected. In the 12 months that I have been at home, I've gone through many phases that have made my life feel like a roller coaster. In order to get by I looked for ways that could help me alleviate my day-to-day life in quarantine and I found that exercise and meditation helps me cope with the overbearing stress that the lockdown imposes on us. Aside from exercising and meditating, I also reserve a day in my week where I would connect with my friends and talk about how we are feeling during these times of struggle which allow me to see beyond what my perception tells me. Other actions that allowed me to connect with myself are cooking and baking, as they help me achieve a sense of fulfillment in a time where I question my purpose.

The future depends and will always depend on what actions we take in the present time. We have to let go of our expectations that are over-the-top because the future may not be as bright as we picture it to be, this will help bring us back into reality before it can lead us into further disappointment. In letting go of our expectations of the future and exhausting demand of needing to take charge of the outcomes of life, we get to relieve ourselves from any form of dissatisfaction. Lastly, letting go of expectations allows us to focus on the problems that we are currently facing instead of wasting our energy on possibilities that may never come about.
